Islandderry Fishery is situated in Co. Down and home to quality strong fighting rainbow trout. The Fishery offers fly and bait fishing for anglers of all experiances in a safe and friendly enviroment.
Islandderry consists of two lakes. The main lake is a 400 year old natural, clear water lake of 9 acres. There is boat and bank fishing available on the main lake and its stocked with rainbow and steelhead trout from 2lb to 20lb. Fly fishing only on the main lake.
The Hollow Springs lake is a small man made lake of 1 acre and 12 foot deep. There is a stone pathway round the lake for bank fishing. Perfect for beginners. Methods on this lake are fly, bread and worm.
There is an aboundance of fly life on both lakes making dry fly and buzzer fishing very popular with sedges, daddy long legs, f-flys and black midge being among the favourits. Suspended buzzers, bloodworm, and hoppers also work well. The favourite nymphs are hairs ears, dwal backs, montanas, damsels and phesant tails. Best lures to use are cormants, cats whiskers and yellow dancers.
Islandderry Fishery has alot to offer with monthly, all night and evening competitions run on a regular bases. There is a onsite tackle shop which stocks everything from flys to rods. Fly tying classes, and casting tuition are also available.
Unlike most fishery's, Islandderry will let you kill whatever size fish you want without any extra charge. Although if you do not want to kill any of the big fish (10lb and over) and chose to release them again you will receive a free catch & release ticket
MONSTER TROUT CAUGHT AT ISLANDDERRY FISHERY!!
Pat Webb, Glenavy got a shock when he hooked into this giant 20lb5 rainbow. Pat was fishing the main lake from the jetty using a hares ear on a floating line when this monster took his fly. After a good 20 minute fight Pat managed to land the fish, got his picture taken and then released him again. Pat now holds the new record at Islandderry fishery for the biggest fish caught and landed!!
